Organist and Choir Director

Martin Fendley

Martin Fendley began his tenure as Organist and Choir Director in July 2006. In addition to playing the organ for Sunday services, he conducts the choir, handbell ensemble and works with guest musicians.

Martin brings to St. Luke's a wide range of liturgical and musical knowledge, beginning with his days as a young musician serving at his home parish of DeHaven Memorial Baptist Church in LaGrange, Kentucky. These early duties he performed--acting as singer/organist/trumpet player/director, being grounded in a musically hands-on atmosphere, the pursuit of liturgical excellence and the edification of both church and community through the glorious realm of sacred music--have been his offering to God and his life's work. His time at Highland United Methodist church and the Episcopal Church of the Advent, along with several other Catholic and Presbyterian parishes in the Louisville area, exposed this versatile musician to the greater parameters of planning exciting, thought-provoking and musically literate worship. He edits, arranges and transcribes much music, bringing to the fore unknown liturgical works from the Baroque period. Martin feels blessed to have been led to, and chosen by, this welcoming church!
