The
music ministry at St. Luke's seeks to glorify God through the
creative and authentic interpretation of the Church's musical
literature and to use a variety of means (musical and otherwise) on
which to meditate and present the grace and grandeur of our God. The
participation of persons within and outside our walls using their
own God-given talents as an offering in the leadership of the
church, aurally enhance our worship leading us in the magnification
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The
music ministry of St. Luke's is centered on the 10 AM Sunday morning
worship service and other church festivals in which organ, choir,
handbells, soloists and instrumentalists provide musical and
liturgical leadership for the worship of God and the spiritual
edification of God's people gathered at St. Luke's.
Choir
St.
Luke’s Choir offers musical leadership in worship every Sunday.
Their repertoire crosses a variety of genres from ancient to
contemporary and from unison pieces to four-part harmony. Singers
who are in high school and older of all voices and levels of
experience are welcome to participate in the choir. Reading music is
not a requirement. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings at 7:00
p.m. and Sunday mornings before worship. Contact Organist/Choir
Director
Martin
Fendley
for more information.
Handbells
St.
Luke’s owns XX octaves of XXX handbells. Our handbell choir is a
combination of beginners and experienced ringers, and they play
regularly during Sunday morning services and special holiday
worship. If you can count to four, you can play handbells, and you
are invited to join the St. Luke’s Ringers. They rehearse on
Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. Contact Organist/Choir Director
Martin
Fendley for more information.
Organ
St. Luke’s pipe organ was installed following the damaging flood of
1937. It has a newly refurbished Kilgen console and pipes from the
original organ as well as other sources. It is featured on the site
of the Southern Indiana Chapter of the
American Guild of Organists
here.
